Viking Council introduces shadowing opportunity

If you ever wondered what it was like to be on Viking Council, now is the time to find out. Viking Council is opening job shadow opportunities for anyone interested in joining the team. Viking Council President Tre Porter hopes that this will make the program and board run more efficiently in the future.

“The job shadow opportunity is a way for anyone wanting to join Viking Council. to see what the job really entails,” Porter said. “We don’t want people coming into the position next year and be like, ‘oh I wasn’t expecting this.’”

“When I wanted to be CFO, I didn’t know much about it,” he said. ” I think if I had an opportunity to shadow the position for a few weeks, that would have given me a really good idea where to start or where to go if I had a question.”

The idea is still fresh and new to Viking Council, as well to most of campus. However, it’s an idea they plan to move forward with.

“The idea was sparked from student life mentioning that the Viking Council would better serve the student community if there was more interest, more competition, and the students who were running would have more to offer to the students,” Rayyan said.

As much fun as Viking Council seems to have on campus, there are serious elements to it as well.

“Grades are certainly the biggest thing; you have to have a certain GPA to be on Viking Council,” Porter said.

Emails will be sent out either the last week of November or the first week of December for anyone interested in the positions. The job shadow is a lengthy process, which is used to help perspective students understand the work that goes into it. Viking Council wants to make a healthy environment for future candidates and team members now, by incorporating a bit of  healthy competition.
