Grand View Football Team to Play Baker

The Vikings are going into their eighth season as a football team this year, and with this year’s new conference, the team will compete against Baker University for the first time on Saturday, August 29.

The Vikings have had a successful history, including their 2013 National Championship and All-American conference award in 2014.

Derek Fulton, senior quarterback, began playing football his freshman year and has been the Vikings’ captain for three years.

“We’ve never played Baker before, so it’s kind of a unique experience,” Fulton said. “We’ve got a lot of film on them, so we are pretty prepared and ready to go.”

The Vikings look forward to the new conference change and compare it to the play-offs, because it allows them to compete against teams they have never faced before.

Travis Johansen, assistant coach, said he has seen the team’s hard work this preseason and hopes that it is prevalent in their face-off against Baker.

“It’s a good measuring stick to see where we are at in comparison to this league, and that team,” Johansen said. “Going against these guys, we will certainly find out how good we are, because they’re a good team.”

Austin Flynn, offensive coordinator, said he believes the new conference offers challenging competition, and he is interested in seeing the outcome of the season.

“A lot of people don’t see how much work goes into what the guys do,” Flynn said. “I think these guys have worked extremely hard.”
