Pentatonix Christmas album review

Acappella group Pentatonix is known for its spunky twists on covers. Arrangements are upbeat, sharp and diverse in tones, which each strongly mimic instruments. The five voices combine to give a wide range of vocal harmonies to their music. This October they gifted their listeners with a second Christmas album.

I have always enjoyed listening to covers of popular songs and hearing their covers pop up on Pandora always makes my day. I find myself questioning who the band is at first because they are always surprising me with their gifted tones, as each artist can produce such distinctive noises for different genres. They bring new life to the originals through textured tempos and bright rhythm.

Although they are diverse and ever changing with their styles, listeners can always recognize their sound. I was honestly shocked when I listened to their Christmas album; it was completely different from what they have produced in the past. Their pace is a lot slower, notes are deeper and the sounds carry out smoother and longer. The members have been known to bring individual flare to a song and are very vibrant with each of their tones, but with the Christmas album they have harmonized very well.

Notes and melodies are carefully conducted and drawn out. Their sounds and melodies seem softer and more controlled. They seem to have spent a lot of time constructing the combinations and the levels of noise, as not one artist’s sound overpowers the other. There is a theme of unison throughout the album and, each sound flows magically with the others. Whether a listener is a fan of PTX or Christmas music, their album could make anyone a believer.

Christmas music is a ritual during the Holiday season, but it can be repetitive at times, so it is intriguing to hear various genres of artists tackle a traditional song. In my opinion, the same old music could get redundant, but popping in the Penatonix album will spruce up any holiday home. The PTX album embodies timeless melodies and conquers each song by their talented vocals. I recommend that everyone purchase the album, be the party pleaser and light the holiday flame by playing “A Pentatonix Christmas.”
