Mid-Season Update of Grand View Sports

At the midseason point, Viewfinder takes a look at how the school’s various fall sports teams are faring.

Men’s Soccer 
The Viking men’s soccer team is off to a 5-3-2 start coming off a season that had the Vikings making it to the final four in the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship last year.  The Vikings are currently 3-1-1 in conference play and are coming off a 1-1 tie in double overtime against No. 14 Central Methodist University. 

Women’s Soccer 
Women’s soccer currently has a 5-6 record (2-3 conference play) with a roster boasting seventeen seniors.  The Viking women are coming off a 2-0 loss against No. 13 Central Methodist University, but are looking to bounce back against MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS, on October 8th.  

Men’s Golf 
The Grand View Men’s golf team is currently ranked 4th in the nation after winning the national championship last season.  The Vikings recently held their home meet in Polk City, IA, on October 2nd and 3rd.  Grand View invited eight very talented teams and held strong with a 4th place finish.  Senior Mitch Pfingsten placed 2nd overall in the meet with a score of 213. 

 Women’s Golf 
The Viking women’s golf team is off to great start with two athletes (Nelson and Mantilla) finishing 1st and 2nd respectively at the Simpson Invitational in Indianola, IA on September 28th.  The women’s golf team placed 3rd again after a 3rd place finish at the Buena Vista Invite and a 4th place finish at the Wolfpack Invitational in Milwaukee, WI. 

Men’s Cross Country 
The Grand View men’s cross country team shined at the Viking Invitational, held in Pleasant Hill, IA, with a first place finish and three runners featured in the top ten places.  The Viking men recently placed 13th out of twenty-two teams at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island, Illinois, and will compete again on October 7th in Davenport, IA. 

Women’s Cross Country 
The women’s cross country team placed 3rd at the Viking Invitational and most recently placed 13th at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational.  The Vikings will travel to Davenport, IA, on October 7th to take on Saint Ambrose at 10am.   

Men’s Football
The Vikings are off to a great start posting a 5-1 record this season coming off a road victory at Mid-America Nazarene University.  They are currently ranked 7th in the latest NAIA football polls and look to keep the four game win streak going.   

 

 

Women’s Volleyball 
The nationally ranked women’s volleyball team has started off the season very strong with a current record of 16-6 with a 10-0 record in conference play. They are currently ranked 13th in recent NAIA polls. 

Men’s Tennis 
The Viking men’s tennis team is coming off their first victory against Saint Ambrose University, posting a 1-2 record through the first three games of their season.  They look to improve their record on October 5th at Morningside College. 

Women’s Tennis 
Grand View’s women’s tennis is off to a 1-1 start and looking to improve with a victory in their next competition at home against Simpson College.  Eisha Nathwani was recently named a Heart of America Player of the Week for her dominant performance agianst Saint Ambrose on September 27th 

Shooting Sports 
The Grand View Vikings, last season’s national champions, opened up the Fall season with a 976-961 win at home against Southwestern Community College.  The Vikings hope to keep up the pace when Indian Hills comes to town on October 4th.
