Success Story

Halle Still, a Grand View University senior, is an example of someone who followed the steps to success and landed her dream job. Still grew up in Moville, Iowa, a town with a population of roughly 2,000. This upcoming May, she will be moving to Dallas, Texas, a city with a population of 1.4 million, to pursue her dreams of working with the Dallas Cowboys football team as a sales team member.

Since as long as she can remember, she has been a Dallas Cowboys fan. When she was younger, she was even a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader for Halloween.

While at GV, Still has taken a variety of sports management and sales classes. She had an internship for the Iowa Cubs, a minor league baseball team out of Des Moines, from February to September this past year.

“Grand View has helped me realize what it was exactly that I wanted to do,” Still said. “My professors and advisor helped me make some connections, and I was also required to do an internship.”

The internship opened Still’s eyes and guided her in the direction she wanted to go.

During this internship, she did ticket sales and sold to groups of 25 or more. On top of that, she coordinated group outings, business picnics and birthday parties.

The internship allowed Still to get out of her comfort zone and interact with many different people. In the sports industry, it’s all about the connections and experience you have. The internship gave her the sales background she needed for the position she got with the Cowboys.

In Dallas, Still will be doing similar tasks to those she did during her internship. She will be doing group sale tours and selling to groups of 20 or more at the AT&T Stadium.

The process of getting the job went well for her. According to Still, she reached out to a lot of big organizations and teams, hoping to hear something in return. Eventually, she was able to get in contact with the director of sales from the Cowboys, and over Christmas break, she went to Texas for a face-to-face interview.

Still had a number of interviews with professional teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets and Kansas City Royals. Over the summer, she spoke with 20 other organizations as well.

“The interview process with the Cowboys was pretty smooth; every other team was a lot more intense I would say,” Still said. “But with the Cowboys, when I got off the phone with them, he pretty much said I was a good fit, so when I got down there for the interview, it was smooth. I was basically told on the spot that I would be a good fit.”

A week later, she was informed she had gotten the job. Her emotions overwhelmed her, and she could not believe that she had just gotten her dream job and was going to be working for her favorite team.

“I was happy that all the work I put in the past summer and reaching out to all of these teams finally paid off,” Still said. “It just made it that much better that I am a fan of the team as well.”

Kaylee Watson, a friend of Still, described her as a very uplifting person who is always there for her friends and family. Watson said Still had a lot of good things to say about her future job, and she was very excited to tell her friends and family about her new position.

The move from Iowa to Texas is coming up fast for Still. When her softball season comes to an end this spring, she will be on her way and adjusting to her new life in Texas. Still said she is excited to see where the future takes her and is more than ready to start working for her favorite team.
