GV men’s volleyball team hopes third time’s a charm

Not once but twice, Grand View men’s volleyball has been runner-up in the NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Tournament; however, as the saying goes “third time’s a charm.”

Starting off the season with a 3 – 2 win over Ottawa University, Grand View began with a nail-biting bang.

This was followed with the team’s only loss of the season, a 3 – 0 defeat to the NCAA’s Loyola University.

In the weeks that followed, Grand View seemed determined to prove it will take a lot more than that to knock them off their game.

Coming back with a furry Grand View has beat their past seven opponents leaving them with an 8 – 1 record leading into their next game against Graceland University. With these seven wins comes great confidence not because of the win streak but because of the teams they have surpassed. Grand View has beat not one, not two but three top-five nationally ranked teams in Park University who was ranked No. 3, Missouri Baptist who was ranked No. 2 and Ottawa who was ranked No. 5. Along with these wins comes another great achievement that is seen in their rankings which has gone up and allowed them to become the No. 1 team in the nation.

Creating a huge splash for this Grand View team is a trifecta of talent that is circulated around sophomores John Chamon of Miami Beach, Florida, Felix Chapman of San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba and Senior/Team Captain Tim Johnson Jr. of Chicago, Illinois. Combining size, strength and power these three live up to the hype and bring a new level of play not only to the team but the game; and with a recent interview from Tim Johnson Jr. he gives us an inside as to what other magic is happening on the hardwood.

On April 16th Grand View University men’s volleyball team will host the NAIA National Tournament and on this date is where the chips will fall, and this men’s volleyball team will see if see if they can exceed the expectations of their teammates before them and if they can in fact make history and bring back a National Title.
