Remembering Kyle Moore

In the wake of untimely death, we pause to remember a life well lived

Kyle Moore was more than an average 18-year-old. He was a friend of many and a stranger to none. Moore had the type of smile that invited people in; he was outgoing, intelligent and a gifted football player. Prior to attending Grand View, Kyle grew up in Grinnell, where he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and protecting his three sisters from any danger that came their way.

His other interests included an obsession with both the Twilight and Harry Potter film series as well as the Teen Wolf TV series. He loved the show so much his sisters swore he might have believed he was a wolf himself.

Kyle was funny and always made those around him laugh with his jokes and quirks. His uplifting spirit kept him determined, and loved ones say once he made up his mind, there was no turning back. Kyle’s family described him as strong and hardworking with a desire to help the world through biology and chemistry.

Kyle is survived by his parents, Kerry Moore of Grinnell and Marcy Van Wyk-Haddrell; his step-father Jason Haddrell of Grinnell; his three sisters, Samantha, Jessica, and Danielle Moore of Grinnell; his paternal grandmother, Hedy Moore of Grinnell; his maternal grandparents, Vernon and Loretta Van Wyk of Grinnell; and his girlfriend, Abigail Osborne of Grinnell.

Kyle passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, following what his family described as an accidental overdose. His legacy did not end there as he continued to help others through the gift of organ donation, which saved the lives of two people in the past two weeks.
