Night Shift: After hours at Casey’s

As the sun goes down, many people are getting ready to end their day, but for some people the day is just beginning. Viewfinder reporters interviewed firefighters, hotel receptionists and everything in between to find out who is up and why.

Meet Megan,

Megan Stanley works at Casey’s gas station down the street from Grand View University. She works the night shifts on weekends and occasionally a few weekdays.

Megan is fairly new to working the night shift; she has only been working the night shift for four or five months. However, she has worked other shifts since she began at Casey’s two years ago.

When Megan is not at work, she is taking care of her 16-month-old daughter during the day.

Megan is accustomed to weird things happening during her shift.

“It’s Casey’s, weird things happen at Casey’s at night,” Megan said.

One weird occurrence was when a homeless man vomited on the toilet and peed all over the floor. Unfortunately, Megan had to clean that up.

But Megan said the people she meets is her favorite part of working the night shift. She loves talking to people and the quiet atmosphere, which allows Megan to get work done quickly.

Coffee and mixing monster and ice cream together helps keep Megan alert and ready for her shifts. She also said getting as much sleep as possible during the day helps as well.

For those who are just starting to work night time jobs Megan said “always be positive and not let anyone bring you down.”
