Dana Hustedt, director of Esports at Grand View University, was interviewed by ESPNW reporters last month on being the  first woman to direct a university esports program in the U.S. (read the full ESPNW article). In this video, we follow up with her on what it is like to develop the first collegiate esports program in Iowa.

“We’ve built this from scratch, and we have phenomenal equipment, we have a nice space – we’re outgrowing it very rapidly – but I think it’s a cool thing that we have this here at Grand View and not a lot of people realize how much work goes into that,” Hustedt said.

Grand View University’s esports team was officially developed and added to the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NAC) in August of 2017. The team currently participates in League of Legends and Overwatch while hidden away in their high-tech sanctuary located in the basement of Nielson Hall. Their space is complete with 26 gaming stations; gaming chairs and desks; and a VOD review area with couches, chairs and lockers. To learn more about the team, visit the GV Athletics website.
