2021: Better or Worse?

2021 was supposed to be different. It was supposed to be better. After a year of protests, pandemic, disappointment and death, 2021 was supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel.

We are off to a rough start.

All in all, 2020 was hard for many across the world, which leaves the question: Are people optimistic or pessimistic going into 2021?

Viewfinder talked with many at Grand View to get their take and found that the general consensus was that most students have high hopes that 2021 will be a better year. That said, many were less optimistic. Here’s a sampling of what they had to say:

“2021 is going to be better, but 2020 wasn’t that bad.” – Brody Wagoner

“Worse, it’s just starting off really bad.” – Ben Haynes

“It’s going to be better. It’s going to be a good year.” – Carter Huyser

“Now that Joe Biden is president, we are definitely going to have a better year than 2020.” – Brian Standford

Truth is, we have no clue how it is going to turn out. Just like last year, we did not have a clue we were going to have a pandemic, or protests and riots. How the year turns out for people will probably depend a lot on their outlook and perspective. Some people are hopeful and optimistic while others are feeling it is starting off on the wrong foot.

Of everyone interviewed, 91% thought the year would be better, and just 9% thought it was going to be worse.
